Electrical and Electronics Engineering is a continuously evolving subject. As technology has advanced, so have the challenges facing the modern engineer. A silicon chip containing over 100 million transistors in an area no larger than a postage stamp is yesterday's news.

EEE is a subject that naturally partners with other disciplines to open whole new engineering avenues. Examples include Mechatronics - with Mechanical Engineering, Bio-medical Sciences-with Medicine and Avionics-with Aeronautics. The EEE Department at Pandian Saraswarhi Yadav Engineering College prepares students in this field using new-age information and computer-intensive technologies.

Academics

Undergraduate

The B.E degree program is designed to achieve a balance between depth of knowledge acquired through specialization and breadth of knowledge gained through exploration. The undergraduate degree courses offered by the department provide a comprehensive foundation in the core topics of EEE coupled with an area of specialization relevant to emerging engineering challenges.

The curriculum has been designed to create professional electrical and electronic engineers, who can serve in the fields of core electrical engineering, information and communication systems, and other related fields.

Postgraduate

In EEE, there is growing awareness that the future training and education of electrical engineers in the industry needs to be in the area of highly efficient, industry-relevant skills formation, to enable frequent and rapid deployment of professional skills in new areas. As a step in this direction, the postgraduate programs in power electronics & drives and in power systems were evolved.

Faculty

The faculty in the department is a rich blend of personnel with industrial and professional experience. The dedicated staff members have sound knowledge in emerging areas like embedded systems, power electronics applications in power systems, embeded systems,VLSI etc. The breadth and depth of the research interests of the academic staff ensures a high standard of lecture courses and provides excellent opportunities for challenging and stimulating final year projects. Individual lecturers supplement their delivery using blackboards, overhead projectors and video projection.

Research & Consultancy

The research division covers various aspects of electrical engineering. There is an active and growing area of research in the field of power electronics & drives, power system , Control System and Instrumentation. The research group focuses on power electronic devices and integrated circuits, and their uses in various applications. Other major research strands include SMART GRID and their integration in power systems,Controllers,Bio medical image processing.

Department Lab details
The department of Electronics and Communication is committed to provide the state-of-art technical education to the tomorrow's technocrats through dedicated quality teaching.The department strives to provide ample opportunity to the students for exploring and exploiting new avenues in the field of ECE.

The department has Excellent imfrastructure facilities with highly qualified and devoted faculty members having specilization in the areas like VLSI,Wireless communication,Embedded systems,Image processing and signal processing.The department offers an UG Programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering and PG programme in VLSI Design and Communication Systems.

The department has been provided with following laboratories and workshops fully equipped with equipment and machinery as prescribed in the syllabus.

Electronic Devices Laboratory & Circuits Laboratory
Electronics laboratory is special and well equipped with the latest Signal Generators, Oscilloscopes, Digital Trainer Kits and Measuring Instruments. Students are grouped into small teams and guided to do their mini projects by using the facility such as Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, Function Generator, Dual Power Supplies, Various Types of Active and Passive Devices, Variable DC Power Supply (0-30V),Fixed Power Supply + / - 12V,CRO 30MHz,Multimeter (Digital),Multimeter (Analog),Function Generator 1 MHz, Digital LCR Meter,PC with SPICE Simulation Software.


Digital Electronics Laboratory
In this laboratory a wide number of Digital ICS are available to get the knowledge about logical circuits and their components for the students. Analog and Digital Trainer kit are used to built combinational and sequential circuits. This lab comprises of Digital IC, Tester, Power Supply, Multimeter, Computer with HDL software Installed.

Digital Signal Processing Laboratory
The Digital Signal Processing and VLSI applications are becoming more prevalent in everyday use. The field of DSP was developed due to the flexibility offered by the use of digital computers in implementing signal processing algorithms and systems. There is a constant need for designing systems with lower power, higher speed and lower area. The DSP lab is equipped with Higher configuration personal computers. The students enrich their knowledge by using the software tools likePcs With Fixed/Floating Point Dsp, Processors (Kit/Add-On Cards),Matlab With Simulink And Signal Processing Tool Box, Function Generators(1 Mhz),CRO (20 Mhz),modelsim, HDL Designer Pro and cadence, Xilinx ISE Design Software,VLSI FPGA Trainer Kit 500k Gate Density,Pspice Software System.

Network Laboratory
A well established laboratory with high configuration systems , where students practice and analyzing the Communication Systems through Network Software ,Netsim and improve their practical knowledge by analyzing real time implementation using VI-LAN Trainer kit and Xilinx Software.

Communication System Laboratory
Communication laboratory focuses on training the students in both Analog and Digital Transmission/Reception of Signal. The students here start in the analog area by constructing the circuits of Amplitude Modulation, Frequency Modulation and Phase Modulation. A mini AM Transmitter is constructed by them in the MW frequency of Electromagnetic Spectrum and they do a live transmission with minimum power output. The signals are then received in a pocket AM radio. Learning the concepts, with small applications give them plenty of joy and real motivation towards their studies. The laboratory comprises of Function Generators and Cathode ray Oscilloscopes, Network Analyzer, Antenna Trainer Kit, various Analog /Digital Study and Trainer Kits, RF Signal Generator, Digital Storage Oscilloscope,etc.,

Linear Integrated Circuits Laboratory
Linear Integrated Circuits & Simulation lab is very important for designing the characteristics of OP-AMP, 555Timer IC and to simulate the applications of OP-AMP. It is also used for designing the Electronic circuits-1. Students of various branches design and test their circuits as part of their curriculum. Guidance is provided to the students by a team of expert faculty and lab technicians. The labs are kept open after the college hours to enable the students to engage themselves in designing /testing the circuits in their leisure hours. Students are grouped into small teams and guided to do their mini projects by using the facility such as Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, Function Generator, Dual Power Supplies, and Digital Multimeter.

Microprocessor and Applications Laboratory
Microprocessor laboratory helps the students to enhance their knowledge about various processors such as 8085, 8086, Micro controllers and also the interfacing of these processors with other equipment. Students from other branch of Engineering and Sciences also come to this laboratory and develop their skills in the field of Microprocessor and its applications. The features and facilities available in this laboratory will help the students to do their projects and enhance their knowledge about the latest trends and technologies. This laboratory has components such as 8085 Trainer, 8086 Trainer, 8051 Trainer, 8255 Interfacing Card,8279 Interfacing Card,8259 Interfacing Card,8251 & 8253 Interfacing Card, ADC Interfacing Card, DAC Interfacing Card, Stepper Motor Interfacing Card,Dc Motor Interfacing Card and Traffic light controller Interfacing card.

VLSI Design Laboratory
The PG Course on VLSI Design was started in the year of 2013 with intake of 24. The main objective of the VLSI Design course is to provide a complete and state of art knowledge in the area of VLSI Design and testing. The program is designed to provide depth knowledge in the areas like VLSI system design, Hardware description language, System architecture, Verification Techniques, Simulation and Synthesis, Low power design and embedded system. Our college has collaborative links with several industrious and R&D institutions in various fields like software development, hardware design, automotive etc.

Microwave and Optical Laboratory
In Microwave laboratory the students are exposed to the microwave active devices like Klystron, Gunn Diode and Passive Devices Isolator, Circulator, Slide Screw Tunner, Magic Tee, Directional Coupler, Horn Antenna, Attenuator, Terminations. The Optical Communication laboratory is setup to complement the topics studied in the Optical Communication theory course. The laboratory is equipped with Fiber Optic Trainer Kits and Modules to enable the study of components of an Optical Communication System. The students perform experiments to study the characteristics of Optical Sources (LED & LD) and Optical Detectors (LD & APD) and Optical Fibers. The Optical Laboratory has Numerical Aperture.
Sharpens the analytical skills of the students as they discover the structures underlying software, stretches their creative talents as they design new systems and gives them the confidence to sell their ideas to a waiting world. The students come to understand why systems work as they do and what they learn will never go out of date as long as people go on using computers.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is started in 2007, to places its primary emphasis on imparting experiment knowledge to the students with a scientific bend to mind and urge to understand the modern progress in the mechanical field. It offers an Under-graduate B.E.-Mechanical Engineering with intake of 120 students and a Post-graduate M.E.-Energy Engineering programme with 18 intake. Both the courses are approved by the AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to the Anna University, Chennai. This Department is responsible for teaching subjects relating to Mechanical Engineering and conducting practical thereof as per curricula prescribed by the affiliating university. This program is also designed to motivate the students to meet the challenges of other related fields such as Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing, Simulation and Analysis, Mechatronics and with a wide based knowledge in the design and problem solving aspects. In this course necessary and sufficient training is provided to the students through conferences / seminars / workshops to develop their practical skills in the college atmosphere itself. This program has an objective to provide an expanded range of coverage necessary in the basic courses likely to have their impact in the mechanical filed to ensure that the students comprehend the fundamentals concepts before they tackle the advanced and complex situation. The faculty members are enthusiastic and easily approachable. This department aims to train people who are oriented towards research and teaching in advanced area of mechanical engineering. To develop entrepreneurial skills and to impart training in latest technologies to students, the department has signed MoU with esteemed industries and reputed institutions.

This is concerned with the techniques and procedures, by which houses, roads, bridges, dams, reservoirs and other structures are planned, designed, built and maintained. It imparts knowledge of how to use natural and manufactured materials in construction, how to manage the whole project and bring about infrastructure development in a safe and cost effective way while safeguarding the environment and ensuring sustainable development.

Text Books have been prescribed for all courses from First year to final year. Teachers prepare a well planned Teaching Schedule for each course, a copy of which is given to each student. Teachers also maintain a course file for effective teaching. Importance has been given to Audio - Visual Education using color charts, Models, O.H.P, C.Ds and L.C.D. Projectors. In addition, Educational Tour, Practical Training during summer vaccation, project works for the final year are arranged. Also, through the departmental habits including memory techniques, Personality develoment, Placement Training, Enterpreneurship development, Career Advancement are given during First, Second, Third and Final year respectively. Students are encouraged to present papers in association meetings of their departments and also to actively participate in the seminars and conferences conducted by other technical institutions.

UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION (UGC) REGULATIONS ON CURBING THE MENACE OF RAGGING IN HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS 2009 (under Section 26(1)(g) of theUniversity Grants Commission Act, 1956)

What Constitutes Ragging:

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts;

  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or other student.
  • Indulging in rowdy or indiscipline activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it; sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gesture, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student;
  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

RAGGING PUNISHMENTS
Ragging is totally prohibited in the institution, and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging, whether actively or passively, or being a part of a conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished. The institution may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
  • Withholding / withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefit
  • Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.
  • Withholding results.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension / expulsion from the hostel.
  • Cancellation of admission.
  • Suspension from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.

Anti - Ragging Helpline
Ragging is totally prohibited in the institution, and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging, whether actively or passively, or being a part of a conspiracy to promote ragging, is liable to be punished, Ragging is a non-bailable, cognizable and punishable offence. Do not indulge in ragging.

II. RULES

  • Students should wear ID CARD inside the campus.
  • Students should not disturb the classes by unnecessarily.
  • Making noise, standing on the corridor, lounge, etc.
  • Students are strictly forbidden from smoking anywhere in the campus.
  • Students are not allowed to use mobile phones anywhere in the campus.
  • Students are allowed to organise or attend any meeting in the institution or outside only with the prior permission of the Principal / HOD..
  • Students may use two-wheelers of capacity less than 100 cc only. They should have valid driving licence and should ride within the speed limit of 10 km/hr within the campus. Students should wear safety helmets.
  • Students should handle college property carefully without causing any damage.

ATTENDANCE AND LEAVE RULES

  • Faculty members shall take attendance at the beginning of each period
  • A student who is not in the class room when the attendance is taken shall be marked absent.
  • A student who is not in the class room when the attendance is taken shall be marked absent.
A minimum of 80% attendance is required to appear for the semester end examinations. Students who do not have the minimum attendance will not be allowed to appear for the semester end examinations.

LEAVE

  • Students should attend the classes regularly.
  • However, leave of absence for valid reasons only will have to be obtained from the Class Counsellor in advance. In case of sickness, a medical certificate should accompany the leave application that is submitted upon return from illness.
  • Attendance shall be calculated on the basis of periods i.e. in terms of the lecture or lab periods attended.
Attendance for the examinations and CIE tests is compulsory. Absence from the tests will affect the sessional marks awarded as internal assessment by the staff members concerned.

HOLIDAYS

All Sundays, afternoons of all Saturdays and holidays notified by the college.

Degree holders only with 2 years regular full time Teaching / Industrial experience in the relevant field after successful completion of the course including project work. An experience certificate is to be produced by the candidates.

1. In case of BE/BTECH courses in addition to regular mode of study, Lateral Entry and Part Time modes are also considered to be eligible.
2. Candidates admitted through Lateral Entry degree courses are not eligible except, BE/BTECH Lateral Entry degree courses.
3. Candidates with BE/BTECH degrees obtained through Distance modes/ Week end courses are not eligible.
4. Candidates with degree obtained without studying in 10th, 12th and 3 years diploma programme are not eligible.
5. The qualifying UG degree awarded by Universities should conform to the minimum standards of instruction for Grand of the First degree through Formal/Non-Formal/Distance (wherever applicable) Education prescribed by UGC.
